Iyengar Yoga is not aerobics, rather there is mindful movement into and out of the postures, with focus on health-benefiting backbends and inverted postures. The challenge comes when you hold the poses, aiming to achieve balance and a middle ground between effort and ease. By using props I have been able to go deeper into postures while maintaining proper alignment.
As someone who has done yoga for over 15 years and is currently in her early 30s, I came to Lisa’s class in search of a teacher with the experience and attention to detail that I wanted. Lisa’s gentle corrections—often to exert less in a posture—have brought me to experience the right amount of challenge, growth, and peace that one can achieve in even the most advanced poses.

I have been one of Lisa’s students since 2002. Her dedication to improving each individual’s well-being through her compassionate, informed guidance stands out from any other teachers I have had. I have 100% confidence in Lisa’s knowledge, experience and guidance as a teacher because of her commitment to years of on-going rigorous professional Iyengar training as a practitioner and teacher. We are incredibly fortunate to have access to a teacher of Lisa’s calibre in Nova Scotia.

Yoga is helping me stay as limber as possible, which could make all the difference as I get older. And, to my great surprise, I enjoy Lisa’s classes. For that hour and a half I’m not thinking about my various projects or my to do list—I’m totally and completely focused on her instructions and the poses.

I became Lisa’s student in 2006 when I was looking for some sort of heathy activity or program. I had no idea how much it would change my life! From the very first class Lisa spoke of body alignment and breathing and moving with intention and purpose—all new concepts to a life-long klutz like me.
Over the ensuing years I have noticed that although my body has strengthened and changed and I no longer trip as often or walk into walls as much as I used to, it’s the inner changes that I notice the most. I am more in tune with my body. Mentally, I feel more alert and vibrant. And incredibly, at age 67, I am ¼ inch taller than I was as a teenager!

I came to Iyengar Yoga 30 years ago but have had long gaps in my practice due to a nomadic lifestyle. However, I keep coming back to Iyengar as I find it works for me–it’s safe, it’s challenging and I feel better mentally, physically and emotionally when I am practicing regularly. Lisa’s teaching has helped me advance by leaps and bounds in my practice, despite my physical limitations.

I have been attending Lisa’s classes for the past 2.5 years and have noticed tremendous improvement both physically and mentally. I suffered for years with chronic shoulder pain and with dedicated practice I can honestly say that my shoulder is now 90% pain free. Lisa is an amazing instructor, always demonstrating every pose in detail. She is excellent at giving each student the attention they require to practice yoga that fits the individual need. I cannot imagine my daily life without Iyengar yoga–it’s been a true gift.

I suffered from chronic back pain for years due to a serious hiking accident resulting in fractures of the upper spine and calcification in the lumbar region. Since I have attended Iyengar Yoga classes with Lisa, the transformation is truly remarkable. Although there is still hardness in my back, the spine is more supple and the pain has all but disappeared.
I have attended Lisa’s classes for over 9 years and am drawn to her tranquil demeanour, precise instructions and exact corrections of the asanas. Lisa is like a guardian angel for the body and spirit.

Lisa is the best yoga teacher I have ever had. She provides a wonderful environment where the focus is on personal growth and safety. Everyone feels welcome and the class and poses are tailored to you and your abilities. I am always sad when class is over. Lisa is a great teacher!
